Daniela Rodriguez

Daniela Rodriguez is an artist from Miami whose work most often explores self identity, using popular media as a paintbrush which functions both as a linguistic tool, painting the world in a familiar palate, and an evaluative weapon, which, when wielded, calls for a critique of whiteness, “Pop”, and the circulation of image. Intrinsic to her appropriation of pop culture is an apparent longing for community and universality, a way of reconciling self-alienation from her cultural and ethnic identities. These themes are most often depicted in her explorations with video and painting through amateur, low-fidelity techniques, whose inherent hierarchical implications critique class, media, and celebrity.
